Hyderabad: South Central Railway (SCR) has installed bio-toilets in 300 train coaches so far as a part of its plan to do away with direct discharge toilet system
“We have fitted bio-toilets in 300 coaches and 260 more will be added in the next few months,” SCR General Manager P K Srivastava told reporters.
Secunderabad and Renigunta railway stations would be soon declared ‘Clean Train Stations', while Vijayawada and Guntakal stations are already designated so, he said.
The SCR was using the CCTV system, installed mainly for security reasons, to monitor cleanliness activities too, Srivastava said.
Rs 40 lakh have been collected in last six months as fine for littering, he said. On October 2, a special cleanliness campaign will be carried out at all the railway stations, as a part of programme at the national level.
Srivastava also said that security helpline ‘1322' will be launched on October 2 where incidents of theft or chain snatching could be reported.
