New Delhi: Microsoft founder Bill Gates, along with his wife Melinda Gates today met Prime Minister Narendra Modi here.
"Mrs. @melindagates and Mr. @BillGates met PM @narendramodi," the Prime Minister's Office tweeted.
Bill gates appreciated Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana and applauded PM Modi's emphasis on sanitation.
Bill Gates also appreciated India's efforts in introducing four critical new vaccines in its Universal Immunization Programme.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation expressed keenness to continue its partnership with India in this area.
The Prime Minister praised the spirit of philanthropy and public good, with which the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has been working.
He appreciated the Foundation's efforts in healthcare in the states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, and discussed with them how these efforts could be integrated with the existing programmes of the government.
Bill Gates and Melinda Gates also called on Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari at his residence earlier in the day.
Bill Gates met Finance Minister Arun Jaitley Thursday and had also attended the inauguration ceremony of the Indian Newborn Action Plan (INAP) by Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan. Gates had lauded Vardhan's pioneering work in eradicating polio from India.
"There are lessons to be learnt from India's fight against polio which may be applied against other diseases also," he had pointed out.
