Katihar (Bihar): A 50-year-old professor of economics in Jamalpur college married an 18-year-old girl on Thursday last in Indira village under Paschimi Muradpur panchayat of Kursela block.
The professor, Ghanshyam Mishra, a Brahmin, married Asha Devi, daughter of a rickshawpuller Mithilesh Mandal, belonging to OBC, at Mahadev temple in Gaushala near Nowgachia.
Mishra's wife passed away a few years ago, while Asha's husband had abandoned her, says a report in the Hindi daily Prabhat Khabar.
Both the families claimed that the marriage was conducted with the consent of all stakeholders. An 'agreement' was signed under which the groom while admitting to an inter-caste marriage promised not to harass his wife.
