Ahead of tomorrow's opposition meeting, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar met West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Patna on Thursday.
West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday also met Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) national president Lalu Prasad and Bihar deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav and stated that members of the opposition were gathering in Patna to fight the BJP together, "like a family."
"We have come here as we will fight together, we will fight like a family," she said.
Mamata Banerjee arrived in Patna on Thursday to participate in the opposition leaders' meeting that was scheduled for the following day. Abhishek Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress chief's nephew and an MP, was accompanied her.
At the airport, the voluble leader waved to reporters from inside her car and did not respond to any questions.
She immediately drove to the residence of Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav on Desh Ratna Marg 5, where she is likely to meet his father, RJD president Lalu Prasad.
On June 23, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is hosting a massive meeting at which at least 18 "like-minded" opposition parties are expected to discuss a common electoral strategy for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Sharad Pawar, the head of the NCP, will arrive in Patna on Friday morning, while Mamata Banerjee arrived on Thursday.
Banerjee and TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee will attend the Opposition leaders' meeting that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar called on Friday in Patna. Riju Datta, a spokesperson for the TMC, stated, "Desh Ko Bachana Hai, BJP Ko Bhagana Hai (have to eliminate the BJP and save the country)" earlier in the day.
At the meeting to decide on the strategy for the elections in 2024, Akhilesh Yadav, Nitish Kumar, Stalin, Arvind Kejriwal, and senior leaders from the Congress and other parties will also be present. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress, two national parties, are expected to clash over the Centre's Delhi services ordinance, jeopardizing the platform for opposition unity.
According to reports, Kejriwal stated that he would withdraw from the Opposition unity platform if Congress did not support the AAP's opposition to the Centre's ordinance regarding the postings and transfers of administrative officials.
