Bihar reports another COVID-19 positive case from Patna, state toll mounts to 4

Coronavirus positive cases in the country continue to surge as total confirmed infected patients toll is currently at 536 including 11 fatalities. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday night announced a nation-wide lockdown for 21 days asking people to stay indoors during this period in order to contain the virus from spreading further. The Prime Minister said that it was important for everyone to follow the lockdown otherwise it will push India for 21 years if the virus is not contained at this stage.

However, during the lockdown period, all essential services including vegetables, milk and dairy products, medical stores will remain functions. Announcing the lockdown, PM Modi assured the citizens that the government will take care of citizens' need for essential services and informed them that they did not need to panic as essential services will remain available for the people.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured the countrymen there will be no crisis of essential commodities during the 21-day lockdown that is beginning midnight. In a series of tweets, Shah also asked people not to panic as the whole country would fight the coronavirus outbreak together. "I assure all the countrymen that there will be no shortage of essential commodities in the country during the time of lockdown," he said.

Shah said the central government along with all the state governments is making adequate efforts to deal with the prevailing situation. His tweets came shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the 21-day lockdown as a concrete step to combat the pandemic which so far claimed 10 lives in India.
