Legendary yesteryear Bengali film actress Suchitra Sen has been admitted to a city nursing home with respiratory distress, but her condition is stated to be stable.
"Suchitra Sen, who was admitted with respiratory distress in the intensive therapy unit of Belle Vue Clinic due to chest infection, is responding to therapy and her condition is stable now," Belle Vue Clinic CEO Pradeep Tondon said quoting the medical bulletin on Thursday. The 79-year-old actress was admitted on June 20.
Sen could be released in a day or two as her health parameters has improved, Tondon said.
The reclusive actress, often compared with Greta Garbo and who is not seen in public since she quit the film world in the late 1970's, was twice admitted to the same nursing home on February 27, 2008 and October 10, 2007.
Together with late Bengali megastar Uttam Kumar, Sen formed the golden onscreen pair of Tollywood movies during the 50s to 70s period. Suchitra Sen acted along with Sanjeev Kumar in the controversial Bollywood film Aandhi. PTI
