New Delhi, Sept 2 : Broadcast Editors' Association (BEA), the apex body of editors of electronic news channels, has condemned MNS chief Raj Thackeray's threat against Hindi news channels, saying it was not merely a threat against media, but an "assault on the very roots of democracy".
"Such statements are not acceptable in a democratic society. The statement reveals his contempt for the constitution, rule of law and society", says a BEA press release.
BEA has demanded that the government at the centre and the state government should initiate legal action under IPA against raj Thackeray in the larger interest.
BEA has also demanded that the state govt must ensure protection to media personnel in Mumbai against "lumpen elements".
