Bangalore: Bangalore police have arrested Janardhana Chary alias Babu alias Ravi on charge of abducting 30 minor girls in Bangalore and neighbouring areas and then robbing them. He also confessed to have raped a 12-year-old girl.
Kamal Panth, additional police commissioner, Bangalore city, said, the accused had abducted 16 girls in Bangalore city alone and the rest in Bangalore rural, Tumkur, Kolar and Chikkaballapur.
Ravi, police said, used to target girls between the age of six to 12 years who return from schools, and try to befriend them by saying he was their father's friend and had a pooja at home for which he wanted to invite their parents.
He used to tell some other girls that he as a relative of their mother and wanted to gift her a saree. After enticing the girls, he used to take them to lonely places and take off their ornaments, saying these could be stolen.
In some cases, police said, Ravi used to release the abducted girls, but in other cases he used to sexually assault them. In one case, he raped a minor girl inside a hotel.
Ravi, police said, used to steal two-wheelers. He was arrested in June this year, but came out on bail after a month.
