Lucknow: In controversial remarks, the new Director General of UP Police A L Banerjee today said the rape of one of the two victims has not yet been confirmed, and police suspect that the killings of the two girls could be related to property dispute.
Banerjee, flanked by new Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan, Principal Secretary (Home) Deepak Singhal and other senior bureaucrats, told a press conference that the rape of one of the two victims has not yet been confirmed.
“It could be a case of honour killing, and the persons arrested for gangrape and hangings could be innocent”, the DGP said.
The SSP of Badaun Atul Saxena has been suspended, the officials announced.
Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan said, gunners given to all politicians except all MPs, MLAs, and MLCs will now be withdrawn. ‘We will provide gunners only if the court issues orders”, he added.
