New Delhi: New Delhi Municipality Corporation (NDMC) has decided to rename Aurangzeb Road after former President APJ Abdul Kalam.
The new name of this road will be APJ Abdul Kalam Road.
“Congrats. NDMC jst now decided to rename Aurangzeb Road to APJ Abdul Kalam Road,” Kejriwal posted on his Twitter account.
After the death of Dr Kalam on July 27, BJP MP from East Delhi Maheish Girri demanded to rename the Aurangzeb Road after him.
Girri had urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to consider renaming of the road to correct "wrongs" of history.
Girri wrote a letter to the PM in this regard saying the move would be a fitting tribute to the memory of Kalam, widely regarded as the people's President.
"The whole nation is mourning the death of Kalam. He was a great scientist and social reformer who inspired millions across the country as well as dedicated his whole life for our motherland. As a tribute to the people's president, I hereby propose to rename the Aurangzeb road in New Delhi as Dr A P J Abdul Kalam Road," the MP wrote in the letter.
The move was supported by politicians cutting across all political lines and several social activists had also supported the demand.
