The 1,949 km long road is the second longest National Highway of India. It runs through the west to east corner via six states.

Many cities and towns of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal are connected by National Highway 6.

It is officially listed as running over 1,949 km from Mumbai to Kolkata.

It is also known as Mumbai Road.

Recently, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, gave its nod for development of the four-laning of the Singhara-Binjabahal section of National Highway 6 in Odisha.
