Assembly Elections dates UPDATES: Farooq Abdullah appeals to ECI to give 'level playing fields'
The Election Commission has visited Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana recently to oversee the poll preparedness.
The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly election will be held on September 18, September 25, and October 1, with results to be announced on October 4, the Election Commission said Friday afternoon. It also announced that elections in Haryana will be held in one phase voting on October 1 and counting of votes will take place on October 4. While 24 Assembly constituencies will go for polls in the first phase in Jammu and Kashmir on September 18, second phase will see polling in 26 constituencies and 40 in third phase.

National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah said, "...I appeal to ECI to give level playing fields...Especially the officers who were changed. The ECI should look into this matter and on what basis were they transferred..."
"I will contest these elections, Omar Abdullah will not contest the elections. When the state status is granted then I will step down and Omar Abdullah will contest from that seat."

Supreme Court deadline ends on September 30

The Election Commission also met political parties in Jammu and Kashmir to get feedback on conducting Assembly polls in the Union Territory. The office of the chief electoral officer, Jammu and Kashmir, had issued letters to various political parties, inviting them for a meeting with the Election Commission (EC). The recent visit of the Election Commission was the first major exercise for preparing the grounds for holding the maiden Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution on August 5, 2019.
