Imphal: Ethnic tension being fanned by rival groups over the past two months at Aimol village in Manipur's Chandel district has been successfully defused by the Assam Rifles.
Following inter-factional killing of late Walunglua Aimol on August 22, the security situation deteriorated with inter-communal tensions running high, said a press release issued by PRO Assam Rifles yesterday.
The police authorities responded to the situation by placing additional forces in the disturbed area. Assam Rifles played a stellar role in diffusing the tense situation by dominion march and interaction with villagers assuring them of their safety.
The presence of Assam Rifles also had a positive impact on the police detachments operating in the area, the release claimed.
The Aimol area was visited by senior ranking officers for spot security in handling the security situation. The visits were instrumental in bringing peace to the disturbed area, the release added.
The village authority and civil administration expressed their gratitude and thanks to the Assam Rifles for ensuring security and peace, the release said.
