Guwahati: The Assam government has withdrawn a controversial circular regarding use of Assamese as official language in Barak valley with immediate effect.
"The Government of Assam has withdrawn the circular PLC 14/2011/39 dated 30th November 2013 regarding use of Assamese as official language in Barak Valley with immediate effect," an official release said on Tuesday.
The circular that created confusion in some circles was not actually meant for Barak valley, the release said.
"The latest circular PLC14/2011/47 issued today by the Political (B) Department, Government of Assam said that the official language of Barak Valley will continue to be used for all official works," the statement said.
"The circular issued at the directive of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is to remove the misapprehension regarding use of official language in Barak Valley," it added.
