Batasipur (Assam): Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Sonitpur district Gulzar Hussain was killed while four policemen and an informer were seriously injured in an encounter with anti-talk NDFB-Songbijit faction at Dhekiajuli area today.
Police said the ultras fired upon the policemen who were conducting an operation against the militant outfit at Batasipur, over 200 km from the state capital, killing Hussain at around 8 AM.
The ASP, who was hit by bullets on his head and leg, was rushed to the Army's 151 base hospital in the district headquarters town of Tezpur where he was declared brought dead.
The four other policemen and the informer were severely wounded and admitted to Gauhati Medical College Hospital, the police said.
The operation was launched in the remote area this morning on receiving information about the NDFB's presence there, the police said.
