The Rajasthan High Court on Tuesday granted a 7-day parole to Asaram, who is serving a life sentence in a rape case. According to the information, he has been granted parole on "medical grounds". He will be taken to Maharashtra for treatment under police custody. The parole was granted by a bench led by Justice Dr Pushpendra Singh Bhati of the High Court.
In March this year, the Rajasthan High Court had rejected the application of jailed Asaram, who sought permission to undergo treatment at a medical center in Pune. The court's decision came after Pune police submitted a report expressing concerns about a potential threat to law and order during Asaram's stay at the hospital. He had sought permission from the high court to have treatment for his ailments under the Ayurveda system at Madhavbaug Multidisciplinary Cardiac Care Clinic and Hospital in Pune.
Asaram admitted to AIIMS in Jodhpur
In June, Asaram was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in Jodhpur after he complained of chest pain. On June 17, he complained of chest pain following which prison officials took him to the jail dispensary where he underwent an electrocardiogram test. Three days later he was again taken to AIIMS for a routine checkup where he tested anaemic. However, his other test reports were normal. He was sent to jail after the checkup.
Rape case against Asaram
It should be mentioned here that Asaram was arrested in August 2013 in connection with a rape case.
