New Delhi: The 1.3 million strong Indian Army on Thursday donated over Rs 100 crore to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund after forgoing their one-day salary.

The cheque was handed over to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by Army Chief Dalbir Singh at the traditional "At Home" at Army House on the occasion of the 67th Army Day.

The function included an innovations display and a short movie 'Indian Army: The Pride of the Nation'.
Prime Minister Modi was also briefed on the innovations made by the Army based on their requirements.

The Prime Minister congratulated the Army Chief and exhorted the force to encourage the development of in house solutions for day-to-day and specific issues related to the Army.

Modi gave personally signed merit certificates and cash incentives to eight Army innovators.

He said that such initiatives are in tune with and give a fillip to the 'Make in India' effort of the government.

The Prime Minister also interacted with the 'Veer Naris' and award winners.

On the occasion of Army Day, an impressive parade was also organised at Army Parade Ground, Delhi Cantonment, where Army contingents including eight Mechanised and nine marching contingents participated.

For the first time in the history of Army, a women officer contingent took part in the Parade showcasing 'Nari Shakti'.

Earlier in the day, wreaths were laid at Amar Jawan Jyoti, India Gate by the three service chiefs to commemorate the Army Day.
