Patna, Jul 8: Yoga guru Ramdev today said anyone committed to delivering justice to the people and the country was suitable for the post of Prime Minister, no matter which relgion he belonged to.
“It does not matter whether the Prime Minister is a Hindu, Muslim or Christian...all I expect from a person occupying the post is that he or she should be committed to deliver justice to the people and the country,” he said.
Ramdev was replying to a question whether Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi or his Bihar counterpart Nitish Kumar was more suitable for the top job.
It does not matter if the Prime Minister happens to be a Hindu, Muslim or Christian or liberal person, the yoga guru said, adding, all that matters is that the PM should bring back black money stashed abroad and work to build an equitable society and not the kind where only capitalists and expansionists forces have a say.
In an indirect dig at the Congress party for trying to malign his image over his crusade for return of black money from abroad, he said it was regrettable that anybody who speaks for the people gets branded as a traitor.
“People like me have been branded as traitors by the adversaries as a price for raising public issues,” Ramdev said, adding that he was unmindful of the scorn heaped on him by the detractors and will continue to speak against corruption, loot of public wealth, economic mismanagement and prevalence of injustice and inequity in the society.
Ramdev said he would launch a nationwide agitation in a phased manner from August nine to put pressure on the Central government to bring back black money from across foreign shores and related issues for the welfare of the people.
Such an agitation will be carried out through the country till the next parliamentary polls, he said.
Ramdev said he has no differences with Anna Hazare and announced that the latter will join him for the agitation in Delhi on August nine next.
On the TIME magazine describing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as an ‘underachiever', the yoga guru said he was partially in agreement with the assessment of the magazine in the context that the growth rate has slowed down under Singh.
The yoga guru flayed the Prime Minister for “allowing a series of scams to occur, with the 2G Spectrum and Coal being major ones, and said that the national natural resources were given to corporates for a pittance.”
The stolen public wealth should be recovered from whosoever had benefited from these scams or allowed the scams to take place, Ramdev said.
He attacked Congress leaders and UPA ministers, including the Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal, for casting aspersions on the CAG for its expose of major scams and said it was paramount that the constitutional institutions be respected by all, including the ruling parties.
