Andhra Pradesh: In a tragic incident, at least two people were killed after a fire broke out at firecracker stalls in Vijayawada on Sunday morning.
According to the fire department officials, the incident took place in Gymkhana ground at Gandhi Nagar and deceased are yet to be identified.
The local police stated that workers were sleeping in one of the three stalls that got engulfed in the blaze.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined by authorities. After the incident, Local MLA Malladi Vishnu and city Police Commissioner KR Tata paid a visit to the spot to take stock of the situation.
According to reports, three firecracker stalls completely burned down, however, prompt action by the fire services staff stopped the accident from harming other shops in the vicinity.
Meanwhile, residents of nearby houses were startled out of their sleep after hearing the explosive sound caused by the incident.
They also raised a protest over permitting the firecracker stalls to be set up on the ground when a fuel station was located right opposite it.
"What would have happened if the sparks flew to the petrol pump?" the fuming residents asked the authorities.
