New Delhi: Continuing with the decade old tradition of sending ‘rakhis' to their ‘brother' Narendra Modi, now the Prime Minister of India, the Mahila Morcha members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s Gujarat unit collected over half a million ‘rahkis' across the state and sent to the former CM to mark the Raksha Bandhan celebration.

Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel, who was in national capital to attend the BJP National Executive Council Meet, called on the Prime Minister on Friday and tied a rakhi on his wrist.

Patel also tied rakhi to Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan (Petroleum), Harsh Vardhan (Health), Sadananda Gowda (Railways), Prakash Javadekar (Environment), M Venkaiah Naidu (Parliamentary Affairs) and Piyush Goyal (MoS for Energy).

Patel has sent out ‘rakhis' to all MLAs, MPs senior government officials and prominent people across the state and outside.

The festival of Rakhi spreads harmony and celebrates brotherhood. Rakhi is a sacred thread of protection embellished with the affection of a sister for her brother. It symbolizes the inseparable bond of love between brothers and sisters. This gesture is not a mere ritual, but a powerful act that obligates everyone to ensure the safety and security of women.
