Security forces have foiled a major terror bid ahead of Independence Day as they recovered arms and ammunition in Amritsar including grenades and tiffin bombs on Monday. Police said that two to three kgs of an improvised explosive device were fitted inside a tiffin box. The recovery was made from Dalike village situated along the Indo-Pak border.
Police said that arms and ammunition were smuggled from across the border using drones. Police claimed that the sounds of drones were heard on Sunday evening following which locals raised an alarm.
Police said that the package was delivered using a drone and contains five hand grenades, a hundred 9mm cartridges along with a tiffin bomb and three detonators. The IED was made using 2 kgs of RDX. The device also has a switch on it.
Addressing the media, DGP Punjab Dinkar Gupta said that terrorist groups were planning a bomb blast on August 15.
