New Delhi: Security agencies today revealed that al-Qaeda and its affiliated organisations may try to attack Israeli citizens when they are in India.
The alert comes in the wake of the Jewish holidays and the festival season when citizens travel extensively to various parts of the world.
India is one of the most favourite destinations for Israeli tourists and as they generally travel in groups it makes them vulnerable during their stay in hotels and visits to Jewish tourist destinations like synagogues or museums.
The inputs also suggests there could be danger to Israeli's concentrations at airports and even at seaports where Israeli ships arrive.
The Home Ministry's Internal Security first division has also directed that extra care was required at a time when groups of Israelis disembark from cruise ships, buses, etc. or take a tour of various sites and also keep utmost vigil and proper security arrangements to prevent any law and order problems and other untoward incidents.
Inputs also indicate that ISI operatives have been tasked to befriend with defence personnel. It is on the lookout to know how and what steps India has taken to curb terror activities to secure its vast coastline.
The ISI is also planning to target Pawan Hans helicopters which operate from Juhu to oil rigs to ferry men and material. Small projectiles like shoulder fired Egla missiles can disrupt air traffic.
The ISI has also been seeking inputs from abroad regarding the restructuring carried out by different agencies post 9/11 in the US.
In the Mumbai terror attacks in 2008, Jewish centres were specifically targeted.
