An Air India flight that took off from Mumbai for New York was diverted to Delhi following a security concern arising from a bomb threat. After the bomb scare, the diverted flight landed at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. The aircraft is currently stationed at the airport.
According to Delhi Police, all the passengers and flight crew have been deboarded from the flight and the plane is being searched. Providing details about the situation, a senior police official said, "The aircraft is currently stationed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, and all standard safety protocols are being diligently followed to ensure the safety of the passengers and crew on board."
Meanwhile, the Airline has issued a statement over the bomb scare on Air India flight. In its statement, the airline said, "Flight AI119 operating Mumbai to JFK on October 14 received a specific security alert and on instructions of the government's security regulatory committee was diverted to Delhi. All passengers have disembarked and are at the Delhi airport terminal. Our colleagues on ground are making sure to minimise the inconvenience caused to our guests by this unexpected disruption. Air India is committed to and accords top priority to the safety and security of its passengers and crew."
BCAS provides details
According to the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), a total of three planes received bomb threats on Monday, including two IndiGo and one Air India planes. One IndiGo plane has been allowed to fly. The other two planes will also get permission to fly soon. All the flights were international ones from Mumbai. Among two IndiGo flights, one was bound for Muscat and the other for Jeddah. Today 3 flights received bomb threats.
