New Delhi: An Air India Boeing-787 Dreamliner aircraft had its cockpit window shield cracked minutes before landing at Melbourne early today.

The plane was on a Sydney-Melbourne-Delhi flight (flight AI 311) when the technical defect was noticed. All the passengers are safe, and they have been sent via Hong Kong to Delhi from Melbourne this morning, and Air India official said.

"The windshield crack was noticed, and the aircraft was grounded at Melbourne. A new windshield will be brought and fixed before the aircraft leaves Melbourne", the Air India Melbourne station manager said.

There were 176 passengers and 12 crew members aboard the aircraft.

This is the fifth or sixth such incident with the Air India Dreamliners in the last one a half months. Earlier, the Dreamliner aircraft's fuselage fell off at Bangalore airport.

There are nine Boeing-787 Dreamliners flying with Air India at the moment.
