Agra: The Agra Development Authority (ADA) on Monday cleared a proposal to enhance the ticket rate (collected as toll tax) from domestic and foreign tourists to the Taj Mahal.
The present rate is Rs.20 for Indians, shared equally between the ADA and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and under the new proposal, it will be Rs.40. For the foreign tourists, the ticket will now be Rs.1,000 from Rs.750, out of which the ASI gets Rs.250 and the ADA Rs.500. Entry for children below 15 years is free.
This is the third time that a proposal of hiking the ticket rates has been passed by the ADA Board. The proposal has now to be approved by the state urban development ministry and endorsed by the state cabinet.
Even if the state government clears the proposal, it is the ASI which has to take a final decision.
