Mumbai, Sept 15: A convoy of cars belonging to Congress leader Narayan Rane's son Nilesh zipped past the convoy of Aditya Thackeray, son of Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray in Worli on Wednesday, causing the two scions to cross swords at the police station.
Aditya Thackeray on Wednesday lodged a non-cognisable complaint against former party leader Narayan Rane's son Nitesh, stating that Nitesh's convoy had tried to zoom past his convoy while passing on the streets.
The trigger, said police sources, was that Nitesh and his cavalcade of security personnel had on Wednesday evening zipped past Aditya's convoy near Worli naka.
Sources said that this led to a minor pow-wow between the security personnel of the two young men Aditya and Nitesh.
Later in the evening, a crowd of Shiv Sena supporters had assembled outside Worli police station, demanding stringent action against the Ranes.
Wednesday evening's overtaking, according to Aditya, was the second instance in the last four days.
"Four days ago,Nitesh had done a similar thing with his convoy overtaking Aditya's on the Bandra-Worli Sealink,"said the source, wondering aloud whether the animosity between the Thackeray and Rane families was being inherited by the next generation.
Once fast friends, the equation of relationship between the Ranes and the Thackerays swung around six years ago when Nitesh's father, Narayan Rane who was a devout Shiv Sainik, severed ties with the saffron party to move to the Congress.
Back then, the senior Rane had said that he was quitting the party as Uddhav was thwarting his moves to surge ahead in the Shiv Sena a literal reflection of which was mirrored on Worli on Wednesday.
