Chennai: Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party or AAP is exploring new ground, holding its first ever enrolment drive in Tamil Nadu.

In Chennai, on Sunday, the AAP registered at least 1,000 people as members and volunteers.

A  few days back senior AAP leader Yogendra Yadav said in Chennai that his party was not a regional party and that it will have its national strategy in place soon.

Most of the AAP's new recruits are youngsters, under 30. But there were retired officials, too, and homemakers apart from college students.

AAP founder-member Ronald Ansari said  that the Chennai camp was important to draw more volunteers. "Our volunteers won the Delhi elections for us. We want to build support in every parliamentary constituency and field candidates in every state for the general elections."

Registration for the party was conducted at  Marina Beach. At present AAP has units in 16 states and 309 districts.
