New Delhi: Power tariff for people residing in Lutyens' Delhi will be reduced by half with AAP government deciding to extend the electricity subsidy scheme to domestic consumers in New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) areas.
The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at Delhi Secretariat yesterday.
After coming to power, Kejriwal had announced a 50 per cent subsidy on monthly power consumption of up to 400 units.
"Government has decided that the existing scheme of providing 50 per cent reduction in the electricity bills of domestic consumers using up to 400 units per month will also be applicable to the consumers residing in NDMC areas," said a senior government official.
The official said an additional fund of Rs 15 crore will be provided by the government to the Power Department for this purpose.
The scheme was so far benefiting around 36 lakh or 90 per cent of the consumers.
