Vadodara: At least 40 people were arrested on Sunday in Vadodara after clashes broke out between two communities.
An official here said that mobile phone internet and bulk text messaging services have been suspended for four days.
Mobs belonging to different communities indulged in violent clashes, pelted stones at each other, set several vehicles on fire and damaged several shops on Saturday, police said.
"Stone pelting was reported from the area. The cause behind the incident is not known but apparently it was due to some photo circulated on the social media," Vadodara Police Commissioner E Radhakrishnan said.
Gujarat is the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is currently in the United States.
