As Maharashtra Government readies to table key report on 26/11 attacks in the state assembly, Union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh demanded action against police officers who were in key positions when the terror attack took place.

"No action has been taken against any police officer in the last one year. A decision should be taken about action against those in positions of responsibility," said Deshmukh, who stepped down as Maharashtra Chief Minister in the wake of the 26/11 terror attack.

Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil, who held the Home portfolio in the state, had also resigned so had then Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil.

Deshmukh said political leaders had accepted moral responsibility and stepped down.

"This does not mean that they were responsible for the attack. This happens when people seethe with anger and the leader has to take responsibility," he said.

Deshmukh, who is now Union Minister of Heavy Industries, said he was aware that the Ram Pradhan Committee Report, which probed the lapses leading to the 26/11 attacks, was being tabled in the state Assembly today. PTI
