New Delhi: Around 200 shanties were gutted when a fire broke out in Ghazipur area in eastern part of the city yesterday in the evening but no casualty was reported, police said.
As per fire officials, around 27 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames.
The fire broke out at around 5.30pm this evening and soon swallowed 200-odd slums of the area, they said, adding, that the blaze was controlled after three hours.
Although the exact cause behind the fire is yet to be ascertained, fire officials said that short circuit could be the reason.
Initially, around eight fire tenders were deployed at the spot but as the slums were built with inflammable materials, fire spread quickly forcing more than a dozen of tenders to be rushed to the area, they said.
