Thane, May 29: At least 15 people were killed and 36 others injured in a collision between a private bus and a tanker at Medvan Khind on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway today. The bus was coming to Mumbai from Surat. There were 52 passengers inside the luxury bus.
The collision between the private luxury bus and the tanker took place around 7 AM, police said. Eyewitnesses said, the collision took place as the bus tried to overtake the tanker.
Resident Deputy Collector Manoj Gohad said rescue operations have already been launched.
"The disaster management machinery has been pressed into service and medical teams have been dispatched to the accident site," he said.
The injured were rushed to various hospitals around Dahanu, Additional Collector Ashok Shingare said, adding the critically injured were being shifted to hospitals in Mumbai.
