Mumbai: At least 13 people, including a woman, were killed and seven others reported to be battling for life after consuming suspected spurious liquor at a bar in Mumbai's suburban Malavani area, police said on Thursday.
The victims had consumed the country liquor at a bar in Rathodi village on Wednesday night, and started showing symptoms of poisonous effects since Thursday morning.
The seven people are reported to be serious and battling for life in various hospitals in the area, police said, adding that the toll may go up.
According to witnesses, many of them started vomiting, complained of severe abdominal pain and suddenly collapsed, after which their family members rushed them to hospitals.
The Mumbai police Crime Branch has taken over the probe into the incident, Minister of State for Home Ranjit Patil said here on Thursday evening.
One person -- identified as Raju Langada -- has been arrested in this connection and the source of the spurious liquor was being investigated.
