Udhagamandalam (TN), Nov 25: A worker was killed, 11 were injured and four 'missing' when an acid tank exploded bringing down the explosive dough making unit at Aravangadu Ordnance factory near here today, police said.
While one body was extricated from the debris and a seriously injured rushed to hospital, four others who were working in the unit were "missing", West Zone IG of Police P Sivanandi told reporters at the factory, 10 km from here.
Unconfirmed reports put the toll at five.
Sivanandi, who rushed here from Coimbatore, said there was a deafening sound as the tank exploded following which the building totally collapsed, causing minor injuries to 10 others.
Search and rescue operations were still on to trace them, he said, adding a team of experts from Delhi would arrive tomorrow to ascertain the cause of the explosion.
The impact of the explosion was felt in areas in the vicinity of the factory as window panes and glasses in houses and bakeries were shattered. PTI
