New Delhi, Dec 7: The "highly active" Public Accounts Committee headed by senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi has become a cause for concern for his party and the NDA alliance which feels this would undermine its demands for a JPC probe on 2-G scam that has stalled Parliament.
While Joshi has maintains that PAC is capable of handling all aspects of 2-G Spectrum allocation scam, he has in the same breath said the "big demand" of the entire opposition is a JPC probe into the scandal.
JD(U) President and NDA Convenor Sharad Yadav had expressed his concerns to BJP top brass over the "highly active" PAC, saying this was undermining the whole opposition campaign for a JPC.
At a meeting of NDA leaders in the Parliament premises today, some members asked Joshi what PAC was doing with CAG report. He reportedly explained that work was on and PAC had summoned former TRAI Chairman Pradeep Baijal and former Telecom Secretary Siddharth Behura to depose on 2G scam.
Some of the other NDA allies also feel that PAC becoming "too active" at this juncture and could undermine the Opposition's campaign for JPC and the Parliamentary panel should wait till December 13 when the winter session ends before summoning more officials.
Congress took the opportunity to make a major issue out of Joshi's recent statements, saying BJP should explain whether it does not trust its own senior leader. The party has also been repeatedly referring to Joshi's remarks that PAC has the powers to investigate all aspects of the scam. PTI
