New Delhi, June 3: Congress today took a dig at the BJP for attacking the Centre over the issue of corruption, telling the opposition party that "devils should not quote scriptures."

Asked to comment on BJP president Nitin Gadkari's statement that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi cannot escape responsibility over the issue of corruption, party spokesman Abhisek Singhvi said, "Devils should not quote scriptures. They are the last power on the earth who should preach about corruption."

He said Congress leaders from Gujarat have given a petition to the President Pratibha Patil showcasing Narendra Modi's "corrupt Gujarat".

Alleging that the situation was not different in BJP-ruled Uttarakhand and Karnataka, he regretted that BJP has not taken even a single action like seeking resignation of any minister or dropping any minister or ordering a CBI inquiry.

The BJP national executive today accused Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of presiding over the "most corrupt government" since independence, saying it has lost all moral authority to rule.

The issue of corruption in Congress-led UPA dominated the first day of the BJP meet here with the party training its guns on Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi for looking the other way and keeping mum while the 2G spectrum, Commonwealth Games and Adarsh scams were taking place. PTI
