Yogi Adityanath-led UP government declares Vrindavan, Barsana as pilgrim spots

The Uttar Pradesh government on Friday notified Vrindavan and Barsana in Mathura district as pilgrim spots, where sale of eggs, non-vegetarian food and liquor would now be banned.

Yogi Adityanath. The decision to ban sale of eggs, non-vegetarian food and liquor in Vrindavan and Barsana in Mathura district was taken by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The Uttar Pradesh government on Friday notified Vrindavan and Barsana in Mathura district as pilgrim spots, where sale of eggs, non-vegetarian food and liquor would now be banned.

Religious Affairs Minister Laxmi Narayan Chowdhary said that the decision was taken by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Quoting the Bhagwad Gita, he said that Lord Krishna had said in the religious text that people coming to his abode should not have any difficulty and this has inspired the BJP government to take this decision. He also announced that several developmental and infrastructure works like roads, sewerage system, LED street lights would be taken up soon.

While Vrindavan is known for Lord Krishna, Barsana is the birth place of Radha. Millions of faithful turn up every year to these places to pay obeisance to them.

There are more than 5,000 big and small temples in Vrindavan.
