Agra: In a society where we mostly hear men taking final call on marriage based on their own presumptions of woman, three brides in Agra staged a heavy drama on their wedding night refusing to tie the knot as soon as they saw their grooms in person. The brides found the grooms much darker in complexion than their photograph and denied marrying them at the last moment.
Firstly, two sisters on Wednesday night called off their marriage as soon as they came to know about the colour of their to-be-husbands. The women dumped their grooms at the very last hour.
On the very same night, another similar incident took place in the district as one more woman disapproved her groom and denied marrying him, who, in return slapped a court’s restraint order on her face.
Unable to recognize her groom, the woman, who hails Itmad-ud-Daula, was set to marry another man when her actual groom stopped by with court orders, restricting her to marry from another person till she appears in court on May 9.
Police intervened in the matter and said that the brides had only seen the photographs of their grooms.
"Their mother chose the grooms on the recommendation of a baba," said Vinay Prakash, station officer of Fatehabad.
“Women stood off pressure from their extended families and the panchayat with the support of their maternal grandparents and both grooms had to return to their homes in Aligarh disappointed,” he added.
