Reacting to the social media campaign against ABVP initiated by Delhi University student Gurmehar Kaur, daughter of Kargil martyr Captain Mandeep Singh, Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju on Monday wondered who was “polluting” her mind.
Gurmehar Kaur, a student of Lady Shri Ram College, launched a social media campaign against the ABVP after the violence in Ramjas College.
Kaur posted a picture on Facebook saying: "I am a student of Delhi University. I am not afraid of ABVP. I am not alone. Every student of India is with me."
She then alleged to have received "rape threats", saying that she has attracted a barrage of hate messages over her stand on the issue.
"I have been getting a lot of threats on social media. I think it is very scary when people threaten you with violence or with rape," she told a news channel.
Rijiju, in response to the campaign of the martyr’s daughter, tweeted: "Who's polluting this young girl's mind?"
Meanwhile, Gurmehar today said that no student organisation has the right to take law and order in its hands.
She further added that stones were pelted on students and not Umar Khalid as he was not even present there.
“I will not be scared or be cowed down,my father took a bullet for the country& I am also ready to take bullet for the country,” she added.
After the North Campus clash, Kaur had changed her Facebook profile picture holding a placard which read "I am a student from Delhi University. I am not afraid of ABVP. I am not alone. Every student of India is with me. #StudentsAgainstABVP".
Delhi University's Ramjas College on Wednesday witnessed large-scale violence between members of AISA and ABVP workers. The genesis of the clash was an invite to JNU students Umar Khalid and Shehla Rashid to address a seminar on 'Culture of Protests' which was withdrawn by the college authorities following opposition by the ABVP.
