Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was on a visit to Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj on Sunday, made an unusual gesture that will remain "etched in his memory for the rest of his life."

After taking a holy dip and performing puja at Triveni Sangam, the prime minister took time to meet sanitation workers and washed their feet. 

In the video, he can be seen washing the feet of five sanitation workers, including two women, and said that it would remain etched in his memory for the rest of his life. 

PM Modi felicitated Swachha Grahis, fire department personnel, security personnel for their dedicated services in Kumbh Mela.

Speaking at a function to felicitate "swacchta karmacharis" and volunteers, the Prime Minister said that they all stand out as great inspirations for the country.

"The nation is fast moving towards becoming open-defecation free (ODF) before October 2 this year", he added.

PM Modi thanked the thousands of sanitation workers and volunteers who ensured a clean Kumbh at Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh.

He also thanked all those who were not only physically contributing to the cause of Swacch Bharat and projects like Namami Gange but also contributing financially to it.
