A spine-schilling video captures three lions roaming around freely on the streets of Gigasan village in Amreli district of Gujarat.

The video, which was filmed by a local villager on March 4, shows the three lions roaming around on the streets and nearby fields. The lions are believed to have entered the village from the nearby Gir Wildlife Sanctuary.

The lions were there for about 10 minutes, creating panic among the villagers, who ran away from their fields.

Gir Sanctuary – the only habitat of the Asiatic lion – is considered to be the most appropriate place for lions in Asia. While the sanctuary can accommodate only 270 lions, it is currently home to about 312 lions, forcing some of them to settle outside the boundaries of the sanctuary.

India's Supreme Court has ruled that Gujarat needed to relocate some of its lions to other states to avoid the possibility of disease or other disaster wiping out the entire population.
