A vehicle in Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta's cavalcade skidded off the road and fell into a canal in Jammu, killing one and injuring five others.
The deceased identified as Suram Singh (50), was a photographer of the state's information department.
The driver of the vehicle and four passengers were among the injured, police said today.
The accident took place near the Greater Kailash area, on the outskirts of Jammu, when Kumar's convoy was returning from a function, a senior police official said.
The driver escaped with minor injuries and Singh's body was retrieved from the vehicle, the official added.
Meanwhile, the deputy CM offered called it an "unfortunate" incident and offered his condolences.
"It was an unfortunate accident. Our party workers rescued everyone but Suram Singh ji, a cameraman with Information Department died in the accident. My condolences to his family," he said.
