Two persons were killed, while several others were injured after an explosion occurred at an illegal firecracker godown in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich, police said on Wednesday. The incident was reported on Tuesday night from Shivpur Bazar of the district.
According to Superintendent of Police Gaurav Grover, firecrackers stored behind an electronics shop in the market exploded, which led to the incident.
The injured were rushed to a hospital, where two succumbed to their injuries. Others were referred to the Lucknow Medical College Hospital with serious injuries, he said.
The deceased were identified as Nafees (18) and Saddam (17).
A case has been lodged in this connection and further and further investigation is underway, said the SP.
Following the incident, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered the district magistrates and Superintendents of Police to inspect firecracker factories, transportation of firecrackers and their sale.
They have also been directed to take adequate steps so that accidents due to firecrackers can be prevented.
District Magistrate Mala Srivastava said a meeting of departments concerned has been convened for putting an effective check on illegal trade of fire crackers.
Stern action will be taken against those found involved in such trade, she warned.
