Body of a seven-year-old girl was found stuffed in a bag on the roof of a mosque in Ghaziabad’s Murad Nagar town on Sunday, police said. According to Senior Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Krishna, the girl had gone missing from her house on Saturday noon, following which a complaint was filed by her family at Murad Nagar police station.
The gunny bag was spotted on the mosque's roof by a man, Suleman, who went there after offering prayers at around 6.30 am, he said.
Suleman informed the girl’s family and neighbours immediately after he saw the body inside the bag, he added.
The deceased's father and police reached the spot as soon as they received the information, the SSP said.
The girl was strangled to death, confirmed the SSP, adding that the body was sent for an autopsy.
A local councilor, Azaaz Baig has been accused by the girl’s father in the case. The girl’s father alleged Baig killed his daughter due to political rivalry.
The girl's maternal uncle had contested the civic body elections against Baig, Krishna said, adding an FIR was lodged and further investigations are underway.
