In a shocking piece of news reported from Uttar Pradesh's Kaushambi district, a teenage girl was burnt alive allegedly by her neighbour after a failed rape bid. According to police, the incident took place on Tuesday night at a village in Kokhraj area of the district.
Police said that accused, who has been identified as Man Singh, entered the house of the 14-year-old girl and tried to rape her. When the girl started shouting and her grandmother came to rescue her, the accused thrashed the old woman and sprinkled kerosene oil on teenager before setting her on fire.
Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Pandey informed that the girl was rushed to a nearby hospital for immediate medial relief, but she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
Pandey said that they have registered an FIR and a lookout notice has been issued against the accused.
Meanwhile, angry villagers today blocked a nearby highway along with the victim's body. The crowd was dispersed after senior police officials reached the spot and pacified them.
