Union minister and senior BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi’s sister Farhat Naqvi on Saturday alleged that a group of men tried to kidnap her near Chauki Chauraha area in Bareilly in broad daylight.
Farhat, a prominent social activist who runs an NGO working for women affected by triple talaq, also alleged that the three men threatened to kill her.
The incident happened less than a kilometre from the office of the senior superintendent of police while she was returning home.
In her complaint to police, Farhat said when she was returning from a meeting at the Parivar Paramarsh Kendra in the Civil Lines area, a car drove up to the rickshaw she was travelling in and stopped it near Chowki Chauraha.
The persons inside the car used "vulgar language" and threatened to kill her, the complaint said.
Police have registered a case against unidentified persons and launched a probe, SP (City) Rohit Singh Sajwan said.
They are also examining the CCTV footage from the area.
Farhat runs an NGO, Mera Haq Foundation, for divorced women. She is a member of the Parivar Paramarsh Kendra, and works to resolve family disputes.
