Maharashtra Transport Minister, Diwakar Raote has written to Union Transport Minister, Nitin Gadkari, "the fines prescribed in the new Motor Vehicles Act have increased exorbitantly. The central government is requested to reconsider & reduce the same by making suitable amendments in the Act."

Western Railway, PRO: Smoke & fire noticed in AC 3 tier coach of rake of 12955 Jaipur Express in Maintenance Yard at Mumbai Central at 18.03 hrs. Fire is controlled. Cause will be ascertained after investigation. Train is rescheduled at 20.50 hrs after replacing the affected coach.

Jammu and Kashmir moving back to normal
All exchanges activated and all the landlines stand restored. Post paid mobiles have been restored in Kupwara district. Further, mobile numbers of officials belonging to essential services and other offices have also been restored. Schools started functioning, initially with primary schools then middle schools and followed by high schools. The attendance of teachers is around 75%. However, the attendance of students is still thin.
All banks/ATMs are functional. 10 Internet kiosks have been created in all the district headquarters with minimum 5 terminals in each district for departmental purposes like e-tendering submission of scholar ship forms and job applications.

Honda launches BSVI-compliant Activa 125; priced at Rs 67,490
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) on Wednesday launched its first BSVI compliant model in the country -- Activa 125 scooter -- priced at Rs 67,490 (ex-showroom).

Diljit Dosanjh postpones Houston show being organised by Pakistan national after protest
Diljit Dosanjh on Wednesday announced the postponement of his show in the US after the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) called on the actor-singer to cancel the gig, allegedly organised by Rehan Siddiqi, a Pakistani national.
The FWICE, in an August 31 release, asked the "Arjun Patiala" actor to pull out from the show in national interest amid tensions between the two countries.

India not behind Sri Lankan players not travelling to Pakistan: Sri Lanka Sports Minister
Sri Lanka Minister Harin Fernando has rejected claims made by Pakistan Minister Fawad Hussain Chaudhry that India forced the players of the island nation to opt-out of their upcoming tour against the Men in Green.
Fernando, who is Sri Lanka's Sports Minister, said that 10 players have opted out of the tour "purely" based on the 2009 incident when their team bus was attacked by terrorist which left eight people dead and several others injured.

Chidambaram approaches Delhi High Court for bail, challenges trial court remand order
Former Union minister P Chidambaram, arrested in the INX Media corruption case, on Wednesday approached the Delhi High Court seeking bail.
Chidambaram also challenged a trial court order's September 5 order remanding him to 14 days judicial custody in the case till September 19. The 73-year old Congress leader was arrested by the CBI on August 21. -

In-camera proceedings to record Unnao rape survivor's statement begins at AIIMS
In-camera proceedings commenced on Wednesday at AIIMS here, where a temporary court has been set up for recording the Unnao rape survivor's statement in the case of alleged sexual assault by expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in 2017.
The woman's statement is being recorded by District Judge Dharmesh Sharma.

Andhra Pradesh tense as top TDP leaders face house arrest
TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu and his son Nara Lokesh were put under house arrest after their party staged a protest against the alleged attack on their party workers by YSRCP workers. Jaganmohan Reddy's YSRCP has categorically denied the charges but tension definitely prevailed in Amaravati and adjoining areas.
Many political pundits were comparing the TDP-YSR Congress rivalry in Andhra Pradesh as begining of an era that resembled Tamil Nadu's acrimonious Dravidian politics.
