Gaya/Patna: Thailand Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha today visited Bodh Gaya and offered prayer at Mahabodhi Temple in Bihar's Gaya district.
"Thailand Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha was welcomed by PHED and Law minister Kirshnandan Verma at the airport this morning. The Thai Prime Minister offered prayers and also circumambulated the Mahabodhi Tree," Gaya District Magistrate Kumar Ravi told PTI.
He also participated in a special prayer under the sacred tree, Ravi said.
The Thai Prime Minister, who was accompanied by his wife, also visited Wat Thai Monastery in Bodh Gaya, about 110 km from Patna, he said.
"It was the most memorable experience to visit here as a Buddhist. Thank you for your hospitality," Thai Prime Minister Chan-o-cha wrote in the visitors' register during his visit to the world heritage -- Mahabodhi Mahavihara.
After offering prayer, Chan-o-cha told reporters that "I have been thinking of coming to Bodh Gaya for several years. It is my first visit to Bodh Gaya and it is good to be here," the District Magistrate said.
Chan-o-cha is on a three-day India visit from June 16 on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's invitation.
