In an interesting development, some Muslim organisations of Telangana have requested the state government to provide cattle to the Muslim community for sacrifice during the upcoming Bakrid.
According to a report in Times of India, office-bearers of Soofi Academy , Sunni Ulema Board, All India Muslim League, Awami Majilis Amal, Telangana Minority State Forum and Sunni Ulema Council have submitted a joint petition to Chief Secretary Rajev Sharma and director general of police Anurag Sharma for putting in place a system for sale of animals for sacrifice during Bakrid through the animal husbandry department across the state.
The move is aimed at stopping the cow vigilantes from creating any controversy during Bakrid.
"We request that arran gements for sale of animals for sacrifice be made through the animal husbandry department counters across the state, similar to how milk is sold through Vijaya Dairy on Id-ul-Fitr. This move will satisfy all the parties concerned, thereby reducing pressure on police too,'' these organisations said in the petition.
These Muslim organisations have also advised the community members not to sacrifice cow and other animals which are prohibited from slaughtering.
"We are also sensitising the members of our community not to sacrifice cow and other animals which are prohibited from slaughtering," Soofi Academy general secretary Moulana Syed Taraq Quadri told TOI.
In Telangana, the legally permitted animals for sacrifice are oxen, buffaloes and sheep.
However, the issue of illegal transportation of cows into the city allegedly for slaughter has created problems for the police in the state recently.
