Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Sunday said those having more than two children should be denied voting rights. The yoga guru further said people like him, who do not get married should be accorded special honours, news agency ANI said.

Speaking at a recent event, Ramdev cited the rising population of India as reason for need of such actions.

“Is desh mein jo hamari tarah se vivah na kare unka vishesh samman hona chahiye, aur vivah kare, to 2 se jyada santaan paida kare to uski voting right nahi honi chahiye,” the news agency quoted Ramdev as saying.

(“In this country, people like me, who never get married should receive special honour. Those who get married and produce more than two children should be denied voting rights.”)

Justifying his statement, Ramdev further stated this is a national issue and that Hindu scriptures mention the need to have 10 kids when there was slow population growth.

Those who still want to have 10 kids should give one or two to me as well, he said.

One person with a strong personality can defeat several others, the yoga guru added.
